Solutions for Facilities Data Management

Energy and Telecommunications Services

Since 1979 Sewall has provided services in GIS development and maintenance to energy and telecommunications companies throughout the country. With experience in utility data conversion, database design, and software development, Sewall has assisted clients through every phase of an GIS project, from needs assessment and strategic planning to system implementation and user training. During this time, Sewall has facilitated data cost-sharing arrangements between major utilities and local governments.

SYSTEMS CONSULTING
Sewall analysts have assisted utilities in the planning and design of enterprise systems, providing such services as workflow and requirements analysis, business case development, systems integration consulting, and database design. Sewall also performs data QA/QC as a separate service to support clients with conversion activities.

DATA CONVERSION AND SYSTEMS INTEGRATION
Depending on client requirements, Sewall collects and converts existing landbase and facilities data from hardcopy source documents, migrates digital data from one system to another, or acquires new data with aerial and ground surveys. The complexity of utility data conversion demands highly developed skills in problem identification and resolution. Sewall's GIS analysts are experienced at integrating maps at different scales or coordinate systems and in reconciling landbase and facility data contradictions to ensure integrity and consistency. With expertise in various industry-standard software environments, Sewall analysts deliver digital files compatible with existing databases or designs custom models with full connectivity. Sewall personnel are ready to integrate and test all system components and provide individualized user training.

ENTERPRISE DATA MAINTENANCE
In an open market, more utilities are choosing to outsource non-core business processes to provide superior service to their clients. Yet current data demands require maintaining technical staff, training, technology, and support at increasing expense. To streamline corporate operations, reduce data maintenance costs, and increase productivity, Sewall performs work order conversion and posting services. With remote access, Sewall analysts speed posting of changes to enterprise systems, providing utilities with reliable, accurate, and current data.

APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT
To meet the needs of gas pipeline operators, Sewall has developed several configurable software systems, including component-based tools that generate alignment sheets and perform MAOP calculations, class location and risk analysis, and HCA calculations. These components use ODBC to maximize database connectivity and COM to allow easy, cost-effective customization.
